This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 The cover is stunning。 I think I need to go reread the selection series because how was this written by the same person? This book is 550+ pages told in duel POV。 You can literally get rid of half the book。 60 pages are spent with them just stuck in a cave。 Every character is unlikeable accept Annika and an animal that dies。

I really enjoyed this new book by an author that I have loved for a while。 The story started off a little slow but once I got through the 1st 25% it really picked up。 I enjoyed the romance I found it to be a fun read and I love the direction that the story took。 Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion。

A Thousand Heartbeats is told from two POVs。 Princess Annika lives in the kingdom of Kadier while Prince Lennox lives in the rival kingdom where he is the most feared Dahrainian soldier。 Annika is the seemingly “fluffy” type of princess who has more going on than meets the eye while Lennox is the tough killer who has a hidden softer side。 When Annika is on her engagement tour with her arranged fiancé, Nickolas, she is captured and held hostage。 The group that captured Annika is led by Lennox and A Thousand Heartbeats is told from two POVs。 Princess Annika lives in the kingdom of Kadier while Prince Lennox lives in the rival kingdom where he is the most feared Dahrainian soldier。 Annika is the seemingly “fluffy” type of princess who has more going on than meets the eye while Lennox is the tough killer who has a hidden softer side。 When Annika is on her engagement tour with her arranged fiancé, Nickolas, she is captured and held hostage。 The group that captured Annika is led by Lennox and the two of them get to know each other and about the secrets of their kingdoms and how their histories intertwine。As Annika wanted to marry for love but is forced into an arranged marriage for the sake of the kingdom, she has a lot to deal with internally with her feelings。 On the other hand, Lennox has a complex family life where he has a moral greyness to him。 He is colder based on this past, but he sometimes dreams of escaping it。 While it was easier to see Annika’s true self early on, Lennox was a mystery as he was constantly a contradiction。 Slowly his real personality came together for the reader, although I would have preferred a few more pieces sooner to better connect with his character。The pacing of the story is slow at the start as the politics and characters are introduced。 Once Lennox and Annika meet, the story does pick up, although it does build up a lot to an ending that seems too rushed。 There are some elements described in tons of detail and others that seem glossed over, so I wish these elements were more balanced。 Additionally, Annika and Lennox have different personalities yet there were times when their chapters read like the same person。 Since I knew the dual POV pattern through context, I think a little more distinction would be nicer in the writing。 This slight confusion happened with the ages of the characters, as I was not quite sure where to place them as sometimes they read older and sometimes they read a lot younger。 For me, I would have preferred a little more clarity to make my reading experience a little more seamless。As Kiera Cass’s Selection series (mainly the first three) is beloved by many fans, they hold out hope that her other writing will stack up, myself included。 This is a very difficult task to accomplish for Cass as nothing, so far has quite gotten to the same level。 While this one, unfortunately, did not match, it was still difficult to put down and was an enjoyable read。 The ARC version has a space for a map, so I cannot wait to see what the final version looks like as I love maps in stories。 This may be a very long story yet it does go by quickly。 Overall, this was a sweet enemies to lovers story and I cannot wait to read more by Cass。**I give a special thank you to Netgalley and the publisher, HarperCollins Children’s Books, HarperTeen, for the opportunity to read this enjoyable novel。 The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own。** 。。。more

As a huge fan of the Selection series and this author, I would read absolutely anything and everything this author writes。 This book may have started a little slow, but it was well worth the buildup。 I loved the characters, the side characters, the story, just everything was gorgeously done! I really enjoyed getting to know the characters and how they grew in the story。 It was enjoyable to see what they portrayed for others to see of themselves, but how they really felt was different。 I thought As a huge fan of the Selection series and this author, I would read absolutely anything and everything this author writes。 This book may have started a little slow, but it was well worth the buildup。 I loved the characters, the side characters, the story, just everything was gorgeously done! This book was a disappointment, although not the worst book I've ever read。 It had some sweet moments, but almost completely missed the mark in the end。A couple of things I liked about this book first。 I loved that Lennox had this morally grayness to him。 That made him a little more interesting as a character。 He was a man forced to kill and do horrible acts by duty, but was also someone who so desperately didn't want to。 He wanted to leave that life behind, but he did what had to be done。Annika This book was a disappointment, although not the worst book I've ever read。 It had some sweet moments, but almost completely missed the mark in the end。A couple of things I liked about this book first。 I loved that Lennox had this morally grayness to him。 That made him a little more interesting as a character。 He was a man forced to kill and do horrible acts by duty, but was also someone who so desperately didn't want to。 He wanted to leave that life behind, but he did what had to be done。Annika was a strong character。 I liked that she was kind and good, but she was also brave and strong。 She learned how to fight and defined herself and others。 She knew there would be tough times ahead and he prepared for them。 I liked that about her。Now, onto the rest。。。I was bored pretty much the whole book。 We didn't really get any action in this book until about a 1/4 of the way in。 And even then, it was short lived。 There were all these little bursts of action, but nothing that captivated me enough to propel me through the book。 Even the end, where there was more action, felt slow and short lived somehow。Lennox and Annika had the same voice。 I couldn't even tell it was dual POV, but I know it was。 They literally had the same thoughts and acted very similarly。 I needed something distinct about the two and I didn't get it。Lastly, they fell in love so fast! It was essentially instalove。 It didn't feel like there was a base for it and then there was this random childhood experience that linked them that felt contrived。 I just couldn't with the romance。Overall, this was not it。 I've begun to lose hope in Cass' books since I haven't enjoyed them since the third Selection novel。 I do hope she finds her groove again soon。Disclaimer: I voluntarily read and reviewed a gifted and advanced copy of this book。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。Blog • Instagram • Twitter • TikTok 。。。more

There is intrigue, drama, revelations and a hint of mystery and 'haunting'。 The story unfolds in an unexpected and entertaining way。A Thousand Heartbeats touches on grief, specifically, losing a loved one, and how people deal with grief in different ways。About The Characters:I found the characters really likeable and easy to read about! Annika is a truly good person, a beautiful princess who loves her family and country, and carries herself with a quiet and admirable strength。Lennox on the other hand, is very corrupt, choosing to make horrible decisions in desperation to be recognized and acknowledged by the leader of his people。 (Thistle is a great addition to Lennox's character。) There is a great cast of characters! There is an overprotective and loving brother, a greedy, shifty villain, and characters with unrequited love。 Truly, there is so much more than just those mentioned that impact the overall story。 The relationship dynamics are so incredibly interesting, and thought out very well。Potential Triggers:There could be a possibly triggering event on talking about physical abuse (i。e。 beating, slapping, ect。) inflicted by an older man to a younger man。Finishing The Book:I really liked how the ending of A Thousand Heartbeats was handled, and felt the ending offered a satisfying closure of the story。Overall Thoughts:Overall, A Thousand Heartbeats is very well written, another favorite read, and works so well as a standalone! I would highly recommend A Thousand Heartbeats to other readers who enjoy enemies to lovers, star-crossed romance, fantasy stand-alones, fantasy romance。Extra Notes:I think the cover is beautiful。The title was chosen perfectly, befitting the book in a way that make sense after reading。I appreciate that the romance was kept on the cleaner side compared to most other fantasy romance books。I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy through Netgalley and I give my honest review voluntarily。 My review is my own thoughts and opinion; my experience in reading this story。 。。。more

Annika is the young Princess of a kingdom that Lennox's people believe belongs to them。 As the two of them collide in a struggle for the country, the begin to go from enemies to lovers and want to find peace for their peoples。。。This was a pretty good book, with a fast paced plot and plenty of action。 The characters were well written and fleshed out - my only complaint is that at times the romance was a bit nauseating。 The heartfelt declarations of love were definitely being laid on a bit thick!I Annika is the young Princess of a kingdom that Lennox's people believe belongs to them。 As the two of them collide in a struggle for the country, the begin to go from enemies to lovers and want to find peace for their peoples。。。This was a pretty good book, with a fast paced plot and plenty of action。 The characters were well written and fleshed out - my only complaint is that at times the romance was a bit nauseating。 The heartfelt declarations of love were definitely being laid on a bit thick!I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review 。。。more
Jackie,
I had the privilege of getting an arc copy of this book from edelweiss, so a huge thank you to them and the publisher。 All opinions in this review are my own。 For starters, I was super impressed with this book。 I have read all of the authors other books and I like how each book feels new and unique。 This book did not disappoint on that end of things。 One thing I loved about this book was the characters。 The my all felt genuine and I grew to care for many of them。 Annika was brilliant and I love I had the privilege of getting an arc copy of this book from edelweiss, so a huge thank you to them and the publisher。 All opinions in this review are my own。 For starters, I was super impressed with this book。 I have read all of the authors other books and I like how each book feels new and unique。 This book did not disappoint on that end of things。 One thing I loved about this book was the characters。 The my all felt genuine and I grew to care for many of them。 Annika was brilliant and I love a good female lead。 Lennox was more complex, but that made the dynamic between them even better。 Which brings me to my favorite part! The romance。 I loved both Annika and Lennox separately, but I loved them more together。 Other highlights of this book were the multiple love interests for both characters, the world where the story took place and the focus of friendship and family。 Now for the downsides。 The main problem I had with this book is the plot。 This is a common problem that I actually have with most of this author’s other books。 Often times the romance is amazing, but the author sacrificed the plot for it to be so good。 I felt this way with this book and I was disappointed especially considering the size of the book。 Overall, the good characters made up for the lack of a good plot and that is why this book is getting a solid four stars from me! 。。。more
